I'm Gabriela, a multimedia artist based in Jacksonville, Florida. My work is heavily based in nostalgic experiences alongside grief and loss. I find myself exploring these themes via oil paints & photography.

“Remnants”
As an artist, my bodies of work are centered around the human experience and sentiments personal to my own life. I explore such through the median of oil painting & various photographic elements. My process includes trial and error in configuring compositions, photographing scenes, texturizing my paintings, and so forth. In my most recent body of work, I am encapsulating themes of grief, nostalgia, perseverance, as well as acceptance through the art of oil painting. These pieces are explorations of my own feelings and experiences regarding grief, thus allowing viewers to relate and reflect on what grief means to them and how it is prevalent in life. These works are not meant to be straight forward, and I encourage them to be interpreted in multiple ways. Grief to me is similar to learning a new language. Not only is their trial and error in growing, but uncomfortableness. You learn to watch flowers wilt, you cut your hair, you hallucinate, you question religion, and you learn to accept the bigger picture. As someone who is now entering her second decade of grief, it becomes easier to recognize the brighter color in things. Therefore, it is important to me to keep the color palette saturated in this body of work. As a way of embracing the new. This body of work will continue to expand, but throughout this year I experimented with various scenery and symbolism to configure how I truly want to express this topic. I want these pieces to mean something to me, therefore each and every painting ties to a memory I’ve had during the process of losing my father and being forced to outgrow my childhood.
